Win Olive Oil!

I am a total sucker for a great looking bottle. I am also charmed by all things Chilean, AND I use more olive oil than most Italian grandmothers. So when the Chilean olive oil company Olisur asked me if I’d like to sample some of their award winning olive oil (O-Live and Co) in their super cool bottle,  it took me about 3 seconds to respond.  The bottle of oil was used up in under a week and I am a convert.

They’ve agreed to give a bottle away to a Sweet Beet reader so tell us in the comments what your favorite food is to eat with olive oil and you might win!

Here’s their website if you want to know more about this fab co …

I love popping up popped corn with lots of olive oil and then sprinting it on after it has popped with sea salt and pepper

  • John Courtright

That’s easy. Smashed tomato and smushed olive pasta. Cut fresh tomatoes in half, smash your olives (removing the pits), tear basil, crush dried oregano, salt, pepper and olive oil in a bowl. Cook your favorite pasta, when done pour pasta on top of you bowl or tomato and olive goodness.

It’s amazing. The olive oil has to be good because it is such a large part of the flavor.

Swiss chard salad. Quality bread. Pasta with raw tomatoes, basil and fresh mozzarella.

  • Bpurvisaz

We have to pick just one? Roasted veggies tossed with EVOO, garlic and sea salt. I use EVOO every day in something, usually multiple somethings.

BTW, I made your “cook your garbage” veggie stock yesterday and will use it in your recipe for Vegetable Beef Barley Soup tomorrow. : )

    Thanks!

On ice cream! But you need to have a nice, high-quality grassy olive oil and delicately-flavored vanilla ice cream (without too much sugar). Oh, and a sprinkle of sea salt. It is delicious.

I love olive oil on any fresh vegetable – washed baby greens from the garden with a sprinkle of salt, over summer tomatoes with mozzarella, with tender beets – the more pungent and unctuous, the better.

I love it so much, I’ve gotten adventuresome – I’ve even been known to drizzle it over my rice-meal (I can’t eat oats) at breakfast, or over vanilla ice cream at night. It’s AMAZING in madeleines!

If I had to pick one food to eat with olive oil, it would be my homemade vinaigrette. For a long time, I used bottled salad dressing, but once you start making your own, there is no going back, even with the best versions on the supermarket shelf. When I started making my own dressing, I used a lot of vinegar. But an aunt of mine makes the smoothest, silkiest vinaigrette and she taught me the 4 or 5 to one ratio rule. I’ve developed my own recipe, which is adaptable in many ways. Best about it, though, is that at that ratio, it lets a really quality olive oil stand out and shine! There are few things I love better than a simple green salad with a wonderful garlicky vinaigrette.

I have a post about this vinaigrette, if anyone wants the recipe.

  • Kmusey

I love to use olive oil and fresh lemon juice on any steamed vegetable!

  • Antonia Guerra

Olive oil is a part of my blood. My heritage is rooted in Italy and Spain and olive oil is a key, healthy  choice. It makes my salad sing … wonderful on toasted bread (have not used butter for years … even in waffles, pancakes and oatmeal cookies), heavenly in a baked potato, always drizzled on tomatoes, especially vidalia onions, oregano, fresh basil, pepper and mozzarella, delicious with aglio e olio, traditional tomato sauce, sauteed meats and vegetables … drizzled on corn with herbs and roasted on a grill. Olive oil is the best.

  • Kelly

Drizzled on vanilla ice cream or vanilla yogurt. mmmm…

Practically everything – I bake, sauté, and roast practically everything in it. Right now #1 would be on fresh bread. I live in NYC and Fairway Harlem has turned me into an olive oil and French bread junkie, I usually shop around lunchtime to move the car for alternate side parking, and there in the middle of the store is a large island of olive oils and baskets of French Bread rounds, begging to be sampled. This has become my lunch 2-3 times a week!

Wow!  I had no idea Chile produced olive oil.  I’m curious if there is a distinctive flavor that comes from olives grown in that region.  Time to keep my eyes peeled for it!I tend to use my favorite olive oils for on it’s own or with some balsamic vinegar and dip with whatever bread is lying around.  It’s the BEST comfort food aside from guac and salsa.  =)

  • Fred

I usually keep several bottles of olive oil around cuz I don’t want to  run out of this awesome food. I take it twice a day by the tablespoon for its health benefits and otherwise love it on just about everything. I have found that Italian olive oil, overall, is the best tasting to me. Some really good ways to enjoy it are listed in the comments….thanks for the article.

P.S.  I always use organic and Amazon as well as Vitacost have some really good selections at reasonable, reduced prices.

My favorite foods to eat with olive oil are homemade caesar salad w/olive oil lemon dressing and of course hummus!

  • mamavega

I too use an incredible amount of olive oil; I’m always almost out, and wonder who used it up!  In particular, I have been using this brand.  This week I bought some wonderful, fresh mozzarella cheese – I have a bit of basil growing already in a pot, so I combine the two with a dash of pepper and sea salt, and a drizzle of olive oil.  The whole family is enjoying it.

But a staple – kale sauteed with drizzle of olive oil and sea salt.

There is no better way to enjoy the savory flavors of summer vegetables than cooking them with a rich, fresh tasting olive oil. I make ratatouille whenever I can get my hands on fresh summer squash, eggplants peppers and tomatoes – and using the right olive oil makes all the difference!

A flavorful, extra-virgin olive oil is also essential for making Middle Eastern dips, salads and roasting meats and vegetables.

My favorite dish with olive oil is a sauce that goes on braciole.  My grandmother was an Italian imigrant and came over with this recipe from the olive farm that she grew up on.  You mix the oil with garlic, parsley and a few other spices (whatever seems good and you have in your cupboard).  It is siple, but adds just the right flavor to the meat in the braciole.

  • Debbie

I love to make pesto. I love it on any pasta and grilled garlic bread.

I recently discovered replacing bacon fat with olive oil while preparing a traditional Lithuanian dish, kugelis. Although I’ve grown up eating it with the bacon fat & bacon crisps,I needed to make a change in the recipe as my daughter and many of her friends are now vegetarian. I had to take a chance and make the switch. What a success. No one at her graduation party knew of the switch. Now, we’ll serve cooked bacon crisps on the side for those who still want the traditional  bacon flavor of this dish.

  • Haugmoen

I use olive oil in just about everything! I love dipping bread in it! I also use the oil on my psoriasis because it helps to soften the skin. Where would we be without it. Too unbearable to thi k about. I also use olive oil to treat my hair. I guess I really need more oil!! Love it!
